Abstract

Although it is more common among less experienced researchers, the predatory journal trap also affects researchers already advanced in their career. The purpose of this brief review was to discuss the important aspects of predatory journals in nursing and health care and how to avoid submitting your manuscript to this type of bogus publication. At least ten key characteristics serve to differentiate a legitimate publication from a predatory journal. Publication in this type of journal can compromise the career of the scientific researcher, causing loss of research data, waste of public and private resources, and waste of scientific research data and information.
